About the WSA Cruise Program
The Cruise Program offers members an opportunity to experience overnight trips ranging from one night to more than a week. Cruises are typically to nearby Southern California harbors or anchorages such as Redondo Beach, Paradise Cove, Dana Point, Long Beach and San Diego, or islands such as Catalina and Santa Cruz. Sometimes cruises may go into Mexico and beyond. Joining a cruise is a great way to explore the Southern California waters and get to know other WSA members and skippers while gaining new experience.
The cruise schedule is set early in the year giving members time to plan. The full Cruise Schedule 2026 is here. Individual cruises also are listed on the calendar. Most cruises offer members a chance to do other things like snorkeling, kayaking, hiking, shopping and dining or other activities away from the boat depending on the port or anchorage. Often happy hours or dinners are combined with other boats on the cruise.
Who can participate in the WSA Cruise Program?
All participants must be current WSA members in good standing. Participants will be expected to help out on the boat. Crew members share in the cost of moorings, slips, and other costs as requested by the skipper. You will be assigned provisions to bring to share. WSA skippers have had their vessels inspected by the WSA Fleet Captain or other Board designates and will provide proof of sufficient insurance. WSA skippers who volunteer their vessels may bring along one non-member guest at their discretion to help in handling their boat.
How to register for a cruise
- Sign Waiver
-
- Obtain Day Sail Skipper Certification. New members must download and complete a Cruising Profile
participate in a WSA day sail, and have the skipper of the day sail sign the form when
the day sail has finished. Then email the form to wsasmbcruising@gmail.com.
- Register. Register for the cruise(s) of your choice either through the Register Now buttons in the calendar below or by clicking on the cruise directly on the WSA website calendar. Registration does not guarantee participation. Space depends on boat availability and skill levels, but we try to accommodate everyone.
- Cancellations. You must cancel on the website immediately if plans change. Once the crew list is emailed prior to the cruise date, you are committed; notify the cruise chair and skipper instantly if an emergency arises.
- Cruise Logistics. Confirmed crew will receive details via email. Provisioning assignments are managed by the skipper or first mate.
- Crew Responsibilities. You are an active participant, not a guest. Be prepared, follow directions, assist with boat handling, provisioning, cooking and cleaning, and stay flexible to ensure a successful trip. PLEASE READ How to Stay Safe on a Boat
